"Welcome to the Mommyhood" Radio Show - June 13th, 2010

This week on Welcome to the Mommyhood we talk Summer Fun and Safety!!! Jennifer Golde owner of Water Otters My name is Jennifer Golde (previously Jennifer Bornholdt) and for the past 10 years I have had the privilege to be a teacher at The Magic Years Nursery School. I taught the 2 ½ - 4½ year old children in the morning and afternoon programs. In addition to teaching at Magic Years, I have been a swim teacher for over a decade throughout the San Fernando Valley. As a swim instructor I have had experience teaching ages 6 months to 60 years old. When I was 6 months old I started taking swim lessons in a warm private pool with one-on-one instruction. Consequently, I have been in love with the water ever since. The reason I teach swimming today, and the foundation of how I set up my swim program, is because of my early and wonderful memories of those fun summers in the water. For me, teaching swimming is the perfect way to combine my love of teaching and love of the water. I maintain a YMCA Aquatic Safety Assistant certificate, PADI Open Water Dive certification, and am both First Aid and CPR certified. But most importantly, I love teaching!

Mike Claxton from Faith Fabrication According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission has just released updated statistics showing nearly 300 children drown and another 3,000 are seriously injured each year in accidents occurring in swimming pools and spas. One of the easiest ways to protect your children is to have a fence around your pool. Mike just installed our new pool fence and we love it! We talk with him about how important it is to have a pool fence and more!

It all came together in an instant. As an expectant mom, I wanted other drivers to know we were on the road with them. As a photographer of pregnant women, I encouraged my subjects to express their true beauty and pride in the moment. And, when in labor, I was hoping beyond all hope that I could get where I needed to be, in time! Sign of Labor decals and car flags are the result. After my pregnancies, it became even clearer to me that pregnancy should be more publicly celebrated. It is a wondrous experience, a very outgoing, active time!

I truly hope that our Sign of Labor symbol becomes a rallying point, a way for people to celebrate and share in their pregnancy experience online and in-person!
